What is Nyalic?
Nyalic ® is a clear, one-part, solvent-based, non-conductive polymer coating that meets stringent VOC requirements. It is suitable for use on a range of interior, exterior and submerged surfaces.
Is Nyalic a wax or a polish?
No. Nyalic is a blend of several polymeric resins.
Is Nyalic a clear coat?
Yes, Nyalic is a clear coat, but it is not like the clear coats that are used as part of a clearcoat/base coat system like those used on new automobiles.

How long does Nyalic last?
A properly prepared and applied coating should give a minimum of 3 years protection and can last considerably longer (there are examples of Nyalic-coated boats still looking good after 12 years!). Nyalic kept in a sealed container has an indefinite shelf life.
How can I apply Nyalic?
Nyalic® can be applied by solvent-resistant foam roller, brush or sponge; high velocity low pressure (HVLP) sprayers; lint-free cloth or wiping pads. Whatever application method is chosen, Nyalic® must be applied in a well-ventilated area, and we believe it is a good practice to use a respirator when spraying any type of coating. Nyalic® usage is not subject to the reporting requirements of SARA section 311, 312, or 313, CERCLA, or RCRA. No mixing, thinning, or stirring required.
Can I, or should I, wax a Nyalic-coated surface?
No, DO NOT polish, wax or buff a Nyalic-coated surface. Doing so may dull or damage the finish. Once coated with Nyalic, the surface will retain its shine.
Is Nyalic a 2-part product like some epoxies and polyurethanes?
No, Nyalic is not a 2-part product. It is a single pack product that does not need mixing, stirring or thinning before application. And Nyalic is not an epoxy or polyurethane.
Can Nyalic be applied to glass?
No. Avoid contact with glass and mirrors. While Nyalic will adhere to glass, the problem that arises is that the product may cause visual distortion from a prism effect. Any glass and mirrors that come into contact with Nyalic should be cleaned before re-use.
How does Nyalic protect the surface?
The Nyalic formula is a closely guarded secret. There are many characteristics of the formula that allow Nyalic to provide protection from corrosion, oxidation, fading and chalking as well as not peeling or cracking. All of this is accomplished by achieving envelope protection of the surface. Nyalic adheres to the surface and fills in the pores of the pigmented paint to give this protection and to rejuvenate the lustre of the pigment. Nyalic expands and contracts with the host substrate yielding maximum adhesion and does not allow moisture to penetrate to the surface.
Can Nyalic be applied over vinyl lettering?
Yes, it will protect and increase the life of vinyl lettering and decals. And Nyalic will restore the appearance of older, faded decals.
Can Nyalic be applied to things like plastic lenses, strobe lights, LCD’s and other plastic parts?
Yes, Nyalic can be applied to plastic and fiberglass surfaces. It will rejuvenate and protect these surfaces too.
Can Nyalic be applied over rust spots?
Nyalic can be sprayed over rust and will slow the effects of any rust that cannot be removed. However, loose rust should be removed and the surface cleaned as instructed prior to application.
Does Nyalic provide UV protection?
Even though Nyalic is clear, the formulation does resist UV.
Can Nyalic be applied to rubber gaskets & tyres?
Yes, but care must be taken to test the particular rubber before applying Nyalic. Some rubber will remain sticky when Nyalic is applied. Nyalic can be applied to tyres, but take care not to apply Nyalic to the tread area.
Can Nyalic be applied to the engine and battery compartments?
Yes, everything in the engine compartment can be coated with Nyalic except the exhaust manifold. Battery acid does not break down Nyalic. Electrical and mechanical connections are coated in order to provide a moisture barrier. If these electrical or mechanical connections need to be broken for any reason, upon reassembly, use an aerosol can of Nyalic to recoat the connections.
How should Nyalic-coated surfaces be cleaned and maintained?
A Nyalic-coated surface can be rinsed off with water only after the product has cured. Right Rinse™ is an effective cleaner for use on Nyalic-coated surfaces. CAUTION: At no time should you use a solvent-based or abrasive cleaner to clean a Nyalic-coated surface. Fuel or solvent spills should immediately be rinsed off with clean water and dried. Fuel or solvent spills that are left to dry may, over time, need to be touched up. Nyalic is self-levelling, making repairs seamless with the existing coating.
Does Nyalic increase the gloss and reflectivity of the paint?
Yes, most definitely. Nyalic will rejuvenate the gloss of the paint.
Can I remove Nyalic coating?
Yes, Nyalic can be removed with a strong solvent such as Xylene.
Why do I need to clean and prep surfaces before coating with Nyalic?
For Nyalic®, like all coating systems, the more attention and time spent properly preparing the surface, the better the final result. The surface must be absolutely free of all oil, grease, wax, polish, release agents or other contamination prior to applying Nyalic®. We only recommend our proprietary cleansers to prepare the surface because they were specifically designed to work with Nyalic®. These cleansers are inexpensive, concentrated liquids that are diluted by the user to degrease the metal surface and to allow a total free rinsing of all contaminates lifted by the degreaser. Our cleansers are environmentally friendly, biodegradable, and are not subject to the reporting requirements of section 313 of SARA TITLE II and CFR372. MSDS sheets are available for our cleansers (Simple Prep™ and Right Rinse ™) indicating that neither product has any reclaim or sanitary sewer alerts. The surface must be totally dry prior to coating with Nyalic®. DO NOT spray Nyalic® onto a wet surface.
Why do I need a solvent such as Denatured Alcohol, Acetone or Xylene?
To obtain a completely clean surface, unpainted, polished, anodized and bare metals should be wiped with a solvent and a lint-free cloth or towel:
Do not use solvents with additives like oils or dyes, such as nail polish remover or dyed Methylated Spirits. Isopropyl Alcohol can leave a film and is not recommended for use with Nyalic.
Where can I buy denatured alcohol, Acetone or Xylene?
These products are available from quality assured chemical suppliers by mail order/online, like Bonnymans or Reagent. Xylene can also be purchased from retail outlets like Toolstation and Paint Motor Factors.
To purchase Denatured Alcohol (IDA) you will need to register your interest in this product with HM Revenue and Customs by calling 0845 010 9000 and they will send you a registration letter. It does not take long and HM Customs and Excise are normally very helpful. Denatured Alcohol is normally referred to as 'IDA', 'Industrial Denatured Alcohol', 'IMS' or 'Industrial Methylated Spirits'. There is no cost involved in obtaining authorisation and hobbyists may apply to receive 20 litres or less for their own use as a recognised category for authorisation.
Can the drying/curing time of Nyalic be reduced?
Yes, the curing process of Nyalic can be reduced by adding heat. A heat gun or hair dryer on the surface works well. Ovens are fabulous (around 90-100°F (32-38°C) for about an hour). Apply a second coat after the first hour and bake again at the same temperature.
